Program Description:
The Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree provides an educational foundation for
accounting and other management-related careers throughout the private and public sectors. UMUC's
accounting curriculum designed to prepare students to sit for the CPA exam in the state of
Maryland.*
The curriculum for the accounting major focuses on a strictly defined sequence of courses,
including studies in managerial accounting, budgeting, accounting systems, financial management
controls, financial reporting, internal and external auditing, accounting for government and
non-profit organizations, international accounting, and taxation.
After you complete your accounting coursework, you will be able to analyze information and solve
problems related to complex accounting issues. You will understand how ethical considerations,
international accounting practices, and other influences will affect your accounting decisions.
You will be proficient in the accounting software and databases commonly used in public and
private accounting practices. And you'll possess the skills needed to communicate your findings
to others and determine how it will affect organizational decisions.
